Is counselling covered?

Many insurance plans offer counselling coverage, however this coverage can vary in amount as well as which service provider(s) are covered. Gillian Leeming has her Master of Social Work (MSW) and she is a Registered Social Worker (RSW). Please check your extended health benefits to determine if you have coverage by a MSW, RSW. Credentials will be provided on each invoice and receipt for insurance companies information.

If you do not have coverage for counselling through your extended health care plan, please note that you can submit your receipts as medical expenses when claiming your taxes, as Registered Social Workers are categorized as medical practitioners when claiming medical expenses.

Since every insurance company is different, I am unable to speak about which plans cover what. The easiest way for you to find out if you’re covered is to:

• check under the extended health section of your insurance company’s website for coverage for counselling/therapy with an “MSW,” or “RSW,”

• call your insurance company and ask if you are covered for counselling/therapy with an MSW, RSW, or Registered Psychotherapist

• check under the extended health section of your benefits booklet for coverage to see an MSW or RSW, or Registered Psychotherapist

• ask an HR representative to check if your benefits cover you to see an MSW, RSW, or Registered Psychotherapist
